Swayambhu or Swoyambhu is an ancient religious architecture built on a hilltop in Kathmandu Valley. It is on the west of Kathmandu City. Swayambhu is among one of the oldest religious sites in Nepal and also known as monkey temple.
Swayambhu consists of a stupa and variety of shrines and temples, it was built during Licchavi period. It is one of the popular cultural and tourist destination in Kathmandu Valley.
The site has two access points, a long walk up the stairs leading to the main platform of the temple on the east side or by road around the hill to the south-west of the entrace. There are also plenty of shops, restaurants and hostels nearby.
