Fauna: Birds

Pond herons (ardeola) are herons, they are usually 40-50cm (16-20in) long with wingspan of about 80-100 cm (31-30in). They are stocky species with a short neck, short thick bill and brownish back, coloured or streaked fore neck and breast. Their breeding habitat is marshy wetlands and nest in small colonies and lays two to five eggs. They feed on insects, fish and amphibians.
