The natural vegetation of Nepal varies on climate and altitude. A tropical, moist zone of deciduous vegetaion if found in the southern Terai plains and the
Churai Range. At a elevation below 5,000 feet forest consists mainly of khair (Acacia catechu), sal (Shorea robusta) and sissoo (Dalbergia sissoo).
The Mahabharat Range which lies north of Churai Range and the southern Terai plains, at elevations between 5,000 and 10,000 feet,
vegetation consists of mixture of many species like pines, oaks, rhododendrons and between 10,000 and 12,000 feet, fir mixed with birch as well as rhododendron.
Alphine vegetation occupies higher parts of mighty Himalaya Range, between 14,000 and 15,000 feet, which is just below the snow line provides favourable grazing
ground in summer.
