Cymbidium is a genus of 53 evergreen species in the orchid family Orchidaceae. The name Cymbidium is derived from Latin cymba meaning boat. Cymbidium or boat orchid have conqured every continent on earth except for the Artic and Antartic. It is one of the oldest horticultural orchids in the world.
This genus is distributed in tropical and subtropical Asia, countries like Nepal, India, China, Japan, Malaysia, Philippines, Borneo and Australia. They grow up to a height of 60cm and as high as 90cm. They bloom during the winter and each plant can have up to 2 dozen or more flowers. The flowers last about ten weeks.
